Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’ pushes boundaries with epic scale and sci-fi

Indian cinema is gearing up for a monumental release with ‘Varanasi,’ an epic action-adventure film directed by the visionary S.S. Rajamouli. Set to premiere in 2027, the film stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, blending Indian cultural and mythological elements with high-octane sci-fi storytelling.

Rajamouli, known for delivering some of the biggest blockbusters in India, took nearly five years developing the script, which features a globe-trotting journey rich in emotional depth and spectacular visuals.

‘Varanasi’ has been shot across diverse locations including Hyderabad, Tanzania, Kenya and Odisha, with cutting-edge visual effects that rank it among the costliest Indian productions to date, with a budget exceeding ₹1,300 crore.

The film explores themes rooted in Indian heritage while embracing futuristic elements, aiming to continue Rajamouli’s trend of redefining Indian cinema’s global appeal.
